The Vermillion Basin Water Development District (VBWDD) recently awarded the Turner County Conservation District (TCCD) $5,000.00 for tree planting cost-share assistance in 2019. The grant has been a continuing show of support to the TCCD and their tree-planting program since 2013. The cost share is used as an incentive to landowners wishing to plant trees that are ineligible for other cost-share programs.
2018 was another successful year for this program. The TCCD planted 8.7 acres of trees for ten different landowners. The VBWDD grant monies were distributed to the landowners to aid with their portion of the cost. VBWDD Manager Brad Preheim indicates this program has been a good match. “The VBWDD Board is always looking for ways to promote conservation as well as for chances to spread the dollars to the rural landowners. We work with the Conservation Districts in our area on several different ventures, and this tree-planting program has been one of the most successful. We hope to continue to support it for years to come.”
TCCD Manager Charles Groen is also very happy with the program. “The Vermillion Basin Water Development District has been a tremendous partner and resource for us over the years. Their grant money for tree planting cost share has been a great asset for us in encouraging tree planting. We already have interest for 2019 and look forward to another successful year”.
