Andrew J. Dykshorn was born on Nov. 24, 1945, at Mitchell to Andrew and Irene Hohn. He was one of six children and Charley and Katie Dykshorn adopted him and two of his brothers. They moved back to South Dakota, where he attended trucking school and he was an over-the-road trucker for several years until he was forced to retire due to being diagnosed with COPD in 2001. He was an avid fisherman and liked working on cars. He was a longtime member of the Calvary Reformed Church.
