After a very successful regular season campaign the Parker 9/10 baseball teams merged for the state ‘B’ tournament. With nearly 24 kids registered, the regular season had two teams from Parker with the 10 year olds taking second in the league tournament, losing two games on the year, finishing with a 13-2 record. The nine year old team finished the regular season seeded fourth, entering the tournament with a 6-3 record. They won their opener against Tea before falling to eventual champion Lennox 4-3.
Both teams combined to form the ‘state’ team where Parker first took on Parkston, before facing host Castlewood. Parker hung with the experienced Trojan squad through two innings where it was 0-0 but ended up falling to the eventual third place team. In their second game a thriller ensued, as Castlewood and the Pheasants battled back and forth. Castlewood eventually took a lead, and a late Parker rally wasn’t enough as the hosts won the match up 7-3 sending Parker out of pool play into the consolation bracket for one last game. The Pheasants then faced Miller, and after a slow start exploded for several big innings, winning 15-2 to end the year. Parker 9/10 will return all but three of the players from the state team, and will look for strides in the coming season.
