Parker cross country up and running

The 2020 Parker Cross Country team has been busy the last few weeks.  They have completed 3 Invitationals and have shown great strides.   The team has several newcomers, including Coach Derreck Sattler, who has done an excellent job preparing the athletes for the season.  Due to COVID, the first meet, held in Beresford, had a few changes.  The meet was divided into three different divisions and JV & Varsity runners ran together in a 4K.  This meet was a first for Senior Jamie Bleyenburg, but that didn’t slow him down.  He medaled in 19th place out of 73 runners with a time of 16:24.  8th grader Jevin Erickson just missed a medal, coming in 21st with a time of 16:32.  Lincoln Kippes, 9th grader, and Colten Preheim, 7th grader, are also new to the sport, but didn’t let it show as they placed 27th and 50th with times of 17:26 and 19:50, respectively.  In the Girls Division, junior Josie Leberman medaled in 7th place out of 70 runners with a time of 17:55.  Sophomore Tayler Coleman and junior Macy Kippes ran hard and finished 26th and 29th with times of 20:03 and 20:14, respectively.   7th grader, Saige Lessman, didn’t let being new intimidate her, as she finished in 49th with a time of 22:26.

Next up, the team traveled to Salem for the McCook Central/Montrose Invitational.  This course has always proven to be tough, but the team ran hard and came home with 3 medals!  Jamie ran in the Varsity 5K and finished in 48th out of 82 runners with a time of 22:05.  Jevin and Lincoln both brought home medals in the JV division, placing 11th and 18th, finishing with times of 17:54 and 18:36.  Colten beat over half the runners, coming in 38th in 20:24.  In the girls Varsity 5K, Josie medaled with a place of 27th out of 61 and a time of 24:18.  Macy and Tayler fought hard in this longer race and finished 49th & 51st with times of 26:48 and 27:03.

On September 8th, the team participated in the cold, rainy weather in Canton.  The boys Varsity 5K had 34 runners, with Jamie finishing with a time of 21:29 in 28th place.  The boys JV 4K race was full, with 81 runners.  The Parker boys ran a tight race with Jevin finishing in 31st at 17:18, Lincoln in 35th at 17:29 and Colten in 39th at 17:52.  Josie topped our Varsity 5K runners coming in at 15th out of 37 with a time of 22:38.  Macy beat her previous time and finished in 35th with a time of 25:41.  The JV 4K runners had a great showing against the field of 53 runners.  Ellie Travnicek ran in her first race of the year and came in 5th at 18:53.  Tayler wasn’t far behind, finishing 7th in 19:11, and Saige ran her best time, finishing 29th in 22:17.
