Runners compete at BEC Conference meet

The Parker Cross Country team traveled to Volga to participate in the BEC Conference Meet on Thursday, Oct. 8. Though there weren’t enough runners to compete as a team, those that raced continued to improve and impress individually. The varsity boys 5K had 36 runners and senior Jamie Bleyenburg once again ran his best time, despite the windy conditions. He placed 20th with a time of 20:05. Freshman Lincoln Kippes and eighth grader Jevin Erickson opted to give the 5K a shot for the first time this season. They finished in 27th and 28th with times of 20:59 and 21:01, respectively. The girls varsity 5k had 30 runners and Parker was glad to have juniors Josie Leberman and Macy Kippes back. Josie finished in 17th place with a time of 22:43. Sophomore Tayler Coleman brought in her best time of the season, 24:11, finishing in 24th and Macy crossed the line in 29th with a time of 27:13.
The JV boys 4K had 44 runners. Both Parker boys received medals, with eighth grader Alek Kuchta earning ninth place in 17:26 and seventh grader Colten Preheim placing 12th in 17:51.
The JV girls 4K race had 32 runners and seventh grader Saige Lessman made it an exciting ending to watch as her and another competitor kept battling back and forth. Lessman pulled ahead and finished in 24th with a time of 22:44. The team will head to Lennox for the region meet on Thursday, Oct. 15.
